The revival of runes

Runes and their late form were usually used for the common aims till the 17th century. Till this moment runes messages could be met practically everywhere starting with coins and ending with epitaphs on the graves. Even the Church authorities gave their permission for the usage of runes in special places. Even ordinary people knew the simple rune spells and runes were dealing with not only social but also with personal interests.

Unfortunately runes were officially prohibited as the majority of magical arts in 1639. They were prohibited by church authorities that were trying to exorcise demons from Europe. Masters of runes were also killed or they went away hiding from death and the runes studying disappeared with them.

Their revival can be called the dark time in their development. The German scientists connected with the fascism of 20-30s damaged the last attempts to investigate and study runes.

After the World War II runes were forbidden as they could be associated with fascism. That is why people almost didn't mention them until 60s of 20th century. With the rebirth of paganism runes have become very popular as the system of fortune telling and the way of self-knowledge.

There were several forms of runes writing that were used by different peoples. Futhark that was the runes alphabet varied a lot changing the number of letters and sometimes the image of the letter. Runes visited all Europe and could get even to the North America through Vikings.
